Thanks for the quick response. I freedive too and saw two turtles in the la jolla area earlier in July. The warm waters are bringing them farther north.

Hi, Nicholas. I was freediving. The spot was Rat Beach, at the southern end of Santa Monica Bay. I very much doubt that the turtle is still there, as it swam off as I approached it. I never saw it again after the initial encounter.

First sea turtle I've seen here out of approximately 100 dives over a span of 17 years!
