Notes
We found this little snake after a dog walk around the vineyard. It was approximately five to six inches in length. We think it's a Forest Sharp-Tailed snake. It was a mild, humid day and had rained the previous night.
Comments
Mendocino Co has both species of Sharp-tailed snakes, to be sure of which species check the range maps on California herps and/or see if you can get a caudal scale count from your photos. Common Sharp-tails have 24-43 caudal scales, forest have 43-58.
