Cargo Muchahco Mtns. Lyre snakes from here have lyrophanes phenotypes, yet some display the divided anal plate-(same thing happens in other Lower Colorado Desert Mtn. Ranges) this one had a divided anal plate. This snake had to be 4ft long.

haha I hear ya, hate when snakes start to back up, wish they all would just freeze the second you find them lol. Pretty sure I have seen the record for the bigger snake your're referring to, another epic find no doubt. you seem to have good luck with lyres! wish I could say the same...
Thanks, Mark! I wish I got an insitu shot. I was hiking, and somehow didn't notice this guy till I almost stepped right down on him. Laying in a straight line coming out of a bush, I was shocked at how long it looked, as I went to get my camera out of the backpack it started to back up so the shot was gone. An amazing snake. Still, I have seen one bigger, not far from here at all but next range to the north That thing was massive and such an impressive snake.
dude... awesome record
