I found this same exact snake the very next night approx. 50ft from this spot. I was able to tell by pics and I'll include two low qulaity cell shots from the 2nd sighting. I had the same thing happen with a diff snake species at the same locale as well.
Snakes from this locale are lyrophanes, yet some display a divided anal plate, like this one here. I have observed this through out most of the Lower Elevation Colorado Desert Mtn. Ranges in Eastern Riverside and Imperial Counties.
