Notes

This was a beautiful lightly hued Mojave Rattlesnake. It came out of my garden just before 6PM, when the heat of the day was breaking. The snake was crossing my driveway. It seemed much more relaxed than other rattlesnake encounters. It did not coil up, nor did it rattle. It was one calm, cool snake.

Hi Ron, A new button is added to the rattle everytime the snake sheds, Which is often many times each year. Therefore there is know why to tell how old a rattlesnake is by looking at it. Hope this helps for future finds...

Nice entry though..

By counting the buttons on the rattle. Rattlesnakes generally add one new button each year.

How do you know how old it is?
