Notes
This snake was seen crossing the road in south Reno (Huffaker and Del Monte LN). I have seen elagans elagans and sirtalis fitchi in the area many times but this snake looked a lot like the elagans vagrans that I've seen east of Reno. I did not think vagrans made it this far west so my ID is based on that alone.
After comparing the snake in the record to a dor elegans elegans found today ( 5/14/14) only a couple miles east, I am confident enough to change the listing of this snake to elegans vagrans.
Last three pics are of the dor elegans elegans for comparison.
Comments
After comparing it to a dor elegans elegans from a couple miles east today, I have to go with vagrans as well.
Definitely looks vagrans. Probably an intergrade, the old "biscutatus" subspecies.
