Notes
Likely hit during mid-morning. I had passed it on my way to lunch (did not stop at the time), and the body looked worse for the wear when I returned to photograph it, suggesting it was a relatively fresh kill when I passed it the first time. Also, I did not see it during my early morning run down the same road.
Also found a DOR juvenile of the same species 1/4 mile up the same road about two weeks ago, but I wasn't able to voucher it. Finally, I saw a live adult specimen last winter (unvouchered) in the woods no more than 1,000 ft from the spot of this DOR. All this, and a few anecdotal stories about encounters with them, suggests C. c. priapus has a healthy population in the area.
