Notes

Black with pale speckles and lines; whitish below with mass network of black blotches. Locally abundant, many seen in and about marsh. When approached most hopped directly to water, those in water dove deep escaping into submerged vegetation or masked by bottom-mud. Two vouchered. Many dead toads were also found nearby amid the hooves of dozens of cattle that surrounded the springs.
