Notes
i hope i did this right, but i identified red bellies newts in the streams of Holy Jim Canyon in southern california, which seems to be outside their normal range. i noted their brown/black eyes as opposed to the yellow of california newts. the red bellies newts also had significantly brighter bellies when compared to california newts.

Interesting, do you have a picture? Some California newts have brighter bellies than others. What you said about the eyes is interesting. It would be very unlikely for a red bellied newt to get to Orange County, but released pets are a possibility. Again adding a picture if you have one would be super helpful. Thanks, Nicholas
