I was able to photograph an abnormally large garter snake while it was basking on the asphalt pathway. I believe it was a Giant Garter due to its size, its banding pattern, and the fact it was found near an EID lift station which could facilitate the semi-aquatic habitat it prefers. I will have to continue to look in this area for more evidence of species presence.

Yeah I'll cosign on this snake being T. elegans elegans, due to the color/pattern and the fact that El Dorado County is outside of the range/habitat of T. gigas. Changing the ID might be a wise idea. Cheers
Yeah, I would say that's a nice big elegans...
This identification could be incorrect as I was not able to examine the organism in depth or use a garter snake key to identify it because I was at work.
