They're really common, in fact probably what you see most of cruising out that way in certain areas. Anytime I cruise for yuma kings it's almost a guarantee you'll see these. It seems there was a stigma that they were hard to find in CA for a while. They are scarce in the areas around Indio, but get more and more common the further east you head. I've found them in the "flats" around every range from Indio to Blythe. Even in the heart of the range while looking for boas you see them.
