I have lived at this location on a canyon in the city of San Diego since 1993 and never seen a snake, though have had many other wildlife sightings. It took me a while to ID this snake as I didn't realize the markings can be so different between individuals of a species. It looks like this snake is out of it's range, which makes it more interesting. Unless my ID is incorrect. It was about 4 feet long. About 7-8" was hanging off the end of the brick.
