Ah gotcha, still looks like an awesome 3 taricha sp. day! There are a couple iNat pins from on 35, although I think a lot of people mark trailheads they started at which could be what happened there. Couple detailed and legit looking records from the trails that descend off 35 going East real close to the 3 county junction, problem is that the breeding habitat on the ridge itself for other two species is in ponds or pretty marginal looking streams for rivularis. Finding a random adventurous rivularis cruising around 1000 ft up above the breeding creeks and then it descending west into santa cruz is going to mainly involve luck, but I've been paying particular attention to any DOR newts I see in that area just in case!

You should do so, Elliot...because someone needs to find one in Santa Cruz County. This one, though, was a typo. Sigh.

Wow sweet find! I've been waiting for someone to get one in Santa Cruz co. after seeing some on iNaturalist from right at the Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, San Mateo junction. I'm going to have to make an effort to get one from the west side of 35 now too.
