You're right, I don't know why I had thought Cherokee was in West OK. My fault. Awesome animal
No, it is correct. The specimen was found pretty close to the middle of J.T. Nickel Family Nature and Wildlife Preserve (solidly within Cherokee County).
This might be a bit off. Cherokee is way west of their range.
