Was somewhat nervously hiking through the dead grass while I stared intently at each step for rattlesnakes. Near the crest of the hill I spotted rattlesnake skin right in front of my face. It was probably about 4' along the ground from my feet but it felt like it was only 3' line of sight from my head. Started rattling within 30 seconds of being spotted.
