Whitewater Canyon
This Glossy was ran over by the Fire Dept Ranger. A few minutes previous to this the Riverside County Fire Department Ranger, pulled up next to me and told me I had to leave the road, because it was closed. I explained to him that there are no barriers at any place along the road, indicating that the road is closed. He rebutted that there is a sign off the side of the road saying that this area is closed because of fire danger. My rebuttal was that there is indeed a sign saying the area (not the road)is closed, but it is not clear because that same sign says the Reserve is OPEN, and that he should know that if a public road is closed there has to be a gate or barriers indicating that. Than I asked if he had documentation indicating that the "road" is closed? He responded with no, than I asked for his name and Badge # and he refused to give them to me. After the
refusal to supply that information to me, I than told him that we are done here, and to let me be. He than turned around and left the canyon (no longer asking "night drivers" to leave.) No other cars had went down than canyon when I came across this poor glossy hit, right in the middle of the road, and bright as day... Needless to say I wasn't very happy this.. Glossy snakes are the easiest to see of all snakes on the road, hence the name Glossy snake...
