Comments
It is indeed a Gulf Hammock variant, Noah, from the most northern point in the old subspecies range.
The taxonomic dilemma with GHs is that under one school of thought, everything east of the mountains is Pantherophis alleghaniensis. Our data base currently doesn’t permit this as an entry. Discussion amongst that DB board started on this, but currently has been shelved.
Even those that hold to the old structure, GHs were grouped by some as a yellow (“P. o. quadrivittata”) and some as a Gray (“P. o. spiloides”)
They were discontinued as a subspecies in the late ‘60s.
Looks like a Gulf Hammock Rat, no?
