Notes
I am calling this lizard H. elegans because it appears to have pointed chevrons on the tail. However, when this picture was taken H. elegans was not a recognized species and I called it H. maculata. Being that I did not realize two species of earless lizard existed in this area at that time I did not bother to check other diagnostic characters and they are not apparent in the photo, (the tail looks like it might be a little short for H. elegans, but the angle of the picture makes determining that difficult). Comments from those familiar with both species would be greatly appreciated.
