Notes
This helleri was found by Nicholas during the NAFHA outing, when he was by himself for a few minutes walking from Kent V. to another group who had just found a juvenile kingsnake further up the hill. He casually called out "helleri" the way and the rest of the group looked at and someone asked: "He's just kidding right." But Nicholas was already taking pictures, and I knew right away that, no, he was not kidding :-)
It was the first snake, and a rattlesnake on top of that, that Nicholas has found all by himself and it made his day. There was never any danger as he saw the helleri when he was still 20 feet away and she buzzed him when got within 15 feet. He also wore his gators and leather boots.
Comments
Thanks, Brian. It was a big moment for him, one that I am sure he will never forget.
Thanks to your comment, I also realized that I had entered the wrong county - LA County - because I use LA as a default setting. The NAFHA outing was in SD County. Same for the Granite Spiny I entered.
Congrats to Nicholas, We ALL remember our first snake on our own, when we were kids... He'll never forget it..
