Notes
This is the only night snake we captured in 5 summers of pitfall trapping in the Mescelero sands. The study site it was trapped at was located just off of US 380. It is possible that the habitat disturbance caused by the presence of the highway allowed night snakes to penetrate into otherwise unsuitable habitat. It is also entirely possible that they are well distributed throughout the sand shinnery habitat in the Mescelero sands, but just don't fall into pitfall traps very often.
