When we spotted these two turtles the male had fallen backwards off the female. I took some pictures and approached the pair. I could see the male's foot was caught in the female's "door." I'm assuming they saw us first, we must have startled the female causing her to close up, which caught the foot of the male and pulled him backwards.
We found the female a second time only 25 minutes after the first encounter (12:35). At the time we didn't realize it was the same turtle, hence all of the similar photos.
We found the male a second time 1 hour and 37 minutes after the first encounter (1:47 PM) near the same area. At the time we didn't realize it was the same turtle, hence all of the similar photos.
